Giorgio Morandi: the great master of twentieth century still life art. In doing this he would try out the light, the composition, the relationships between the objects themselves and the room they occupied. It was an endless arranging and rearranging, as a meditative occupation.

The artist made repetition and variation a stylistic hallmark of his oeuvre. Doing the same thing over and over again, but in a different way. He studied both form and meaning and taught not only himself to look ‘differently’, but also those who admired his paintings.

The exhibition ‘Giorgio Morandi | Bologna’ displays a great number of his still lives, but it also pays attention to local architecture. The reason is that formal aspects of building in Bologna can be found in the painter’s oeuvre. This results in a surprising and innovative introduction to his work!
