We dance when we are happy or in love. In a grandiose fashion to show how excited we are, or a single swirl to humbly celebrate a victory. Dancing offers comfort and connects us. In October, Leeuwarden becomes the vibrant heart of everything related to dance. Municipal theatre De Harmonie and pop temple Neushoorn form the heart of the first Frisian Dance Days.
High-profile performances from home and abroad embellish our theatrical stages, after the festival opening by the internationally acclaimed dance company Nederlands Dans Theater. Frisian dancers shine on the different stages and everyone is free to shuffle their feet during this great dance event.
Involvement and Diversity
Dance is for everyone. Factors such as age, background or physical limitations disappear entirely. Give motion to your feelings and move your body in any which way.
Young choreographers create duets for able-bodied dancers and dancers with disabilities during the Frisian Dance Days – a sequel to the European Let’s Dance project. Kids join their grandparents on the dance floor to bridge and dance away the generation gap.
The well-loved Dance Battle for primary schools has gone XL with middle school students and Frisian urban dancers. Together with Holland Dance and the Spanish La Compaña Danza Vinculados, experts come to Leeuwarden to talk about the connective power of dance. Our reach spans from the North all the way to the South, thereby working closely with the national Dutch Dance Festival from Maastricht. Talents from Friesland and Limburg shine on stage!
The Dutch Dance Festival, Keunstwurk, Kunstkade, the Jeugd Dans Opleiding Friesland, the Dance Artist course of the Friesland College and DeDansDivisie give dance in Friesland a solid boost every two years, starting in 2018.
