Lost in the Greenhouse: musical theatre in a greenhouse between the tomatoes
The true tragic love story of a Polish worker in Dutch greenhouses. This current musical performance brings different cultures together in a unique setting. Lost in the Greenhouse sheds light on an international topic, wrapped up in a dazzling performance.
Enjoy a music-theatre performance right between the peppers and cucumbers. How does that sound? Lost in the Greenhouse is a tragic love story set between vegetables. Polish and Frisian cultures meet in a greenhouse in the Frisian countryside.
Both Polish and Frisian workers are employed in these greenhouses. Vegetable picking nine-to-five, parties late into the night. People toast, talk, gossip and flirt. Arguments are made and friendships are formed. These workers together form a community, or ‘mienskip’. Suddenly, someone spots a corpse. Who is it? What could have happened?
The story of Wojtek, Freek and Klaske
We follow the young Pole Wojtek on his journey. From the moment he realises that he has no future in Poland, until his dramatic end in the waters of the Frisian landscape. We also follow Freek, the boss of the greenhouses, who lives in his own orderly world: "Man differs less from the cucumber than we may think. Both thrive with plenty of light and a good night's sleep! "
As Freek’s beautiful daughter Klaske finds herself among the pickers, Wojtek is not the only one who falls for her. The silhouette of a tragic love story begins to emerge against the backdrop of a rapidly changing society, the growing labour migration and the impending abandonment of the countryside.
