Places of Hope: pioneering for a new future

Pioneering for a new future Places of Hope takes you into the world of the Dutch pioneer. Throughout our country people are busy trying to live more in harmony with nature. This exhibition gives you a unique view on what we leave behind, our legacy.

Live in your own nature reserve, or purchase a windmill with your neighbours that supplies energy to the whole village. Pioneers are busy throughout the Netherlands with doing more to live in harmony with nature and each other. The Places of Hope exhibition takes you to their special places.

Places of Hope is about country makers, the honorary title for very special people with the courage, creativity and perseverance to lead our country into a new future. That future starts in Leeuwarden, where humans and nature, city and countryside are inextricably linked. Dozens of country makers provide inspiration with their projects for a sustainable future.

The good life of tomorrow

Places of Hope, an exhibition by curators Maarten Hajer and Michiel van Iersel, takes you to special places and introduces the people who are pioneering there. Together with artists, science fiction films, studios and workshops, the visitor searches for the good life of tomorrow.

Inviting

The exhibition full of sound, smell and room for imagination, shows that that future is not threatening, but inviting. In addition, Places of Hope encourages visitors to give form to their own residential area and the outdoor space of the future in an open studio.

Partners

Places of Hope is an initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and is created in collaboration with dozens of partners across the country.
