De Strânljip Bird-Watching Hide

The bird-watching hide at De Strânljip is next to the new cycle path between Blessum and Hilaard.

The hide was installed in 2009 by Vogelwacht Blessum e.o., the organisation that protects birds in Blessum and the surrounding area. The hide looks out over an old arm of the former Middelzee estuary with views in three directions. There is an information panel near the hide. In the spring the area attracts many meadow birds, including lapwings, black-tailed godwits, redshank, Eurasian oystercatchers and Eurasian curlews.

Directions
From the N359 (Bolsward-Leeuwarden) exit at Hilaard. Follow the road (Hoptille) and before you get to the farm, turn right to Hilaerdermieden. A few hundred metres further on you will see a small shed. You can park on the verge here. Follow the Ringiapad cycle path on the other side of the shed towards Blessum for a few hundred metres.
