Martenastate Country House and Estate

Martenastate is a Frisian country house and estate with a long history. At the beginning of the 15th century, it was the home of Sytze Martena and was handed down from one generation of the Martena family to the next in the centuries that followed. The estate is named after one of its first occupants, Duco Martena, who was known as a statesman and hero. He was also a scholar well versed in the historical writings of Eekhof. The last occupant was the esteemed Duco Martena van Burmania Vegelin van Claerbergen.
