The Fries Verzetsmuseum (Frisian Resistance Museum) is part of the Fries Museum. Here you will meet the inhabitants of Friesland who lived here from 1940-1945. Frisians and non-Frisians tell how they experienced the war in the countryside in Friesland. Resistance and persecution, but not a hunger winter. Refugees and people who came from far and wide to fetch milk and food.

The Fries Verzetsmuseum tells stories, stories that touch, confront and make you think....about people who had to make difficult choices in a special time. In the exhibition, you will experience how the Second World War was and is experienced in Friesland. Eyewitnesses and objects with a personal story bring the war very close. The focus is on topics such as the air war over Friesland, resistance against the occupier and going into hiding. Special attention is paid to the spectacular raid by the Frisian resistance at the House of Detention in Leeuwarden.
