The Citybooks project portrays cities on the basis of short stories and a series of 24 photos or images. For this, four writers (international and local) and two image makers stay for a time in interesting, not immediately obvious cities. From Oostende to Grahamstown, from Lisbon to Jakarta. Flemish-Dutch house deBuren, Leeuwarden-Friesland 2018, Lân fan taal and Explore the North also give Leeuwarden its own citybook. The results of these quirky city portraits can be seen and heard from 11 November in Obe. City portraits including images by Anne Margot Stapert and Chantal Rens can be seen here. They were inspired by Leeuwarden and made special images of the city.

Curious about the experiences of the artists themselves? On the Thursday during the Explore the North festival (22 November), the artists involved from home and abroad talk about their special experiences in Friesland. The written stories are currently being translated into Frisian and English and can be listened to later in 2018 as an audiobook on www.citybooks.eu for free. This website has more than one hundred citybooks, which have been downloaded more than 5.5 million times by travel and literature lovers.

The exhibition is free of charge. Tickets are available at explore-the-north.nl and 2018.nl for the Thursday of Explore the North.
