Climb the Oldehove tower

If you’re visiting the city of Leeuwarden, then you won’t want to miss the icon of the city, the Oldehove. It has stood since 1529, and leans further than the Leaning Tower of Pisa! You can appreciate its glory both from in and outside- in 2011 a lift was installed that brings you to the first floor. From there, you’ll have to ascend the spiral staircase to the viewing deck. Go for it! Once you’re at the top, you’ll get an unbelievable view of the city. Also, be sure to make some time for a chat with the ‘tower watchers’, who can tell you all about the history and building of the tower.

NB: Unfortunately, if you have poor mobility or another health issue, we advise not climbing the tower. However, the lift goes to the first floor, so you’ll still get to experience the wonders of the Oldehove!

  • De toren is te bezoeken en te beklimmen van 13.00 tot 16.30 uur. De bezoekersruimte beneden blijft open tot 17.00 uur. In juli en augustus geldt er verruimde openstelling van 11.00 tot 17.00 uur.
