The summer exhibition at the Martinikerk in Franeker is about:
Spiritual art between tradition and modernity with works by Elena Steinke and Larissa Strunowa-Lübke. 

They often work together in their studios in Nord Friesland, Germany.
Both are active members of the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Germany (BBK) and their works are known at home and abroad. 

In their work, each artist finds her own path to personal space and design, without losing sight of the claim to the intellectual content in the work. 

Larissa Strunowa-Lübke on her work: "The creation process is a dialogue, the clarification of a question between me and something higher. The finished image is then the answer to timeless questions. Often it is a whole series of images dealing with the same question. They reflect similar but different aspects of certain emotions. The individual works thus form fragments of a whole.

Elena Steinke's works tell very different stories, located somewhere in the vast, emotional cosmos between the deepest sorrow and the greatest joy. The main, recurring main motif is the coming and going, the eternal cycle of becoming and perishing, in which the old is taken away to produce the new. Between birth and death lies the fullness of life with the same questions. These are her own very personal feelings expressed in her works, but at the same time they are universal and global.

The church exhibition is a varied selection of paintings, graphics, sketchbooks and ceramic objects.
