The Frisian Dance Days open in style with choreography by great masters, performed by the internationally renowned contemporary dance company of the Netherlands.

World Premiere Hofesh Shechter

British-Israeli choreographer and composer Hofesh Shechter is one of the most exciting choreographers of the moment. "Shechter is a true original," said The Guardian. He seamlessly connects his choreographies and original compositions to immersive, original performances. His music is spherical; his dance language is physical, powerful and dynamic. He often combines this power and speed with smooth, swaying movements. In 2008, he founded the Hofesh Shechter Company (UK), a company of dancers and musicians, with which he’s created critically acclaimed performances.

World Premiere Marco Goecke

Fast, detailed movements are characteristic of Goecke’s unique dance language. The globally renowned choreographer created his first work for the NDT in 2008. After this followed numerous choreographies, including Hello Earth (2014), Thin Skin (2015) and Woke up Blind (2016).

Reprise León & Lightfoot | Singulière Odysée, music Max Richter

Singulière Odyssée (2016) is a symbol of how travel and moving are inextricably woven into the DNA of our time, and how life is a constant state of change. The setting of the piece is based on the art-deco waiting room from the Basel SBB railway station. Dancers come and go like travellers, with the exception of one character who remains and waits as if seemingly frozen in time.
