Thijs Segers - portrait of a chestnut tree, the face of a village

Thijs Segers makes a life-size portrait of the last remaining row of chestnut trees in the village of Huins. Painted from nature, a living still life. As a tribute to the pleasure that residents and passers-by experience with these old, but now sick trees. When these are also abandoned, Huins misses her characteristic face, which raises the question of what significance trees have for this village center and its inhabitants.

With the barn doors of the work and presentation space Phlox wide open, eye to eye with the chestnut trees, Thijs Segers records their lives. And everyone is invited to see how those trees are immortalized on a wall measuring seven by five meters. To share memories or to tell how intertwined a human life can be with such a small village forest. And to think about how we can offer trees a place in our midst. As an unmissable fellow villager or townsman, perhaps as a lifelong buddy.
