Lûd - international sound art in the Rijsterbos. The exposition by visual artists fills the forest with special sounds. The only Leeuwarden-Friesland 2018 programme with sound art is a true delight for the ears. 

LÛD, the exposition of sound art, fills the leafy-green 'Rijsterbos' with special sounds made by visual artists. Aspire to be a sound artist yourself? In addition to projects and workshops, Lûd offers a stage for visitors.

The sounds of LÛD - the Frisian word for 'sound' - are made for the unique decor of the 'Rijsterbos'. The woodland, located near the village of Rijs in South West Friesland, was laid out as an investment for an Amsterdam regent family in the seventeenth century. Today, it is managed by Frisian landscape organisation the Fryske Gea and is a popular area for leisurely strolls and recreation.

172 acres of inspiration

In 2018, the woodland is a 172-hectare nature reserve; a source of ample inspiration for local, national and international artists who together make up LÛD. Their works of sound art form a surprising and exciting addition to the existing natural rustle of trees and chirping birds.

Visit and participate

LÛD is the only programme during Leeuwarden-Friesland 2018 that contains sound art. In addition to a main programme with permanent works of sound art, LÛD also includes a border programme with various projects, workshops and educational courses that invite visitors to actively participate.
