WierSter Nocturnal Wildlife Garden

Wier

The WierSter nocturnal wildlife garden is also known as the Lautatún or Lauta garden because the land was once part of the Lauta estate. Come and see the bat tower and the star-shaped hill.

The WierSter nocturnal wildlife garden is also known as the Lautatún or Lauta garden because the land was once part of the Lauta estate. The garden was created by the Freonen Fan Terp & Tjerke Wier or T&T Foundation in 2011 and 2012 in partnership with the architects at NRJ and Landschapsbeheer Friesland, which supports the Frisian landscape. The first stage of the work involved uprooting old thickets and trees, dredging canals and building a star-shaped hill. The second stage saw the addition of a bat tower, a project information panel with illustrations of five nocturnal creatures, and an engraving of the country house that once stood on the Lauta estate. The bat tower that marks the entrance to the garden is where the gatehouse used to be. Along the shell-paved path that leads into the garden there are plants and benches.
