Kuiertocht Skrok | Easterein

From Easterein, you walk through the Skrok. This is a nature reserve and hamlet between Wommels and Easterein. From the birdwatching hut, you can spot hundreds of godwits with a bit of luck. Along the farms at the Skrok, you walk back to Easterein.

If you have time: also visit the Frisian village Wommels, including the Tsiipakhûs, in between.

A "kuiertocht" is a short walking route. So, it probably won't surprise you that in Frisian, "wandelen" translates to "kuierje". You can easily combine a leisurely stroll with an activity in the area, or choose to embark on another leisurely stroll.

Please note: the start of this route deviates from the walking junction network. From the starting point, walk northward. Turn left onto the Van Eijsingaleane, follow this for about one and a half kilometers in the direction of Wommels. From node 20, hike back to the starting point via nodes 37 and 47.

The Martinikerk Easterein

The Martinikerk is a church built in the 14th century, located on a moated elevation. In the middle of the 11th century, a tuffstone predecessor was built. The church hall is available for rent. You can also book a guided tour.

Skrok Meadow Bird Reserve

The Skrok meadow bird reserve between the villages of Wommels and Easterein is a protected area where many birds come to forage and roost. In the spring, the flower-filled grasslands are perfect for nesting.

Het begin van deze route wijkt af van het wandelknooppuntnetwerk. Vanaf het startpunt loop je richting het noorden. Sla linksaf naar de Van Eijsingaleane, volg dit anderhalve kilometer in de richting van Wommels. Vanaf knooppunt 20 wandel je via de knooppunten 37 en 47 weer terug naar het startpunt.
