On this part of the trail you discover Het Bildt: fields full of crops planted in straight rows, traditional farmhouses and dilapidated workers’ cottages along the seemingly endless Oudebildtdijk dike.
This section of the trail takes you along the high Wadden Sea dike to the port city of Harlingen, which has more than 600 monuments. Then you continue on your way to the mound villages of Wijnaldum and Herbaijum.
Setting off from the famous Waterpoort water gate in Sneek, this part of the trail takes you through the southwest of the province to the Frisian city of IJlst. From here you make your way to the town of Balk in the Gaasterland region.
