Gaastmeer is a village in the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân. The village is about 875 years old and has about 300 residents. The famous Frisian poet Jan Jelles Hof was born here. Gaastmeer was in the municipality of Wymbritseradeel until 2011. Gaastmeer village consists of two parts: Kleine Gaastmeer and Grote Gaastmeer. Gaastmeer is known is a water sports location and is connected with several Frisian waterways such as the Fluessen, the Heegermeer and the Grote Gaastmeer. There is also a ferry in the village, which sails to the village of It Heidenskip.
