Natuurmuseum Fryslân (Frisian Museum of Natural History)

Leeuwarden

An interactive museum for the whole family to enjoy!

Awarded 'Best Kidsproof Museum in Friesland' by the Museum Inspectors

At Natuurmuseum Fryslân, you go on an adventure in nature. Four floors full of information, unusual animals and plants, assignments, experiments, games and other surprises invite you to be discovered. Doing and experiencing things yourself are central. TIP: the museum can be visited free of charge every Thursday! With the exception of all school holidays.

See the treasures collected by Captain Severein on his journeys around the world, feel Tom Thumb next to the enormous jaws of the blue whale and watch the preparator set up a long-eared owl or kestrel in the Open Studio. Wander past the various topics in Wonderland such as albinos, prints & turds and records in the animal world. For little ones, a visit to Dragon Li-Ming is an unforgettable experience, while older children can discover all about the theory of evolution in Darwin's Attic.

OnderWaterSafari (underwater Safari)
The museum has recently acquired a real attraction! In the OnderWaterSafari (underwater safari) (accessible for 4+) you step into a vehicle that takes you on a journey through the underwater world of the Netherlands. From the fresh water of ditches and lakes to the salty water of the Wadden Sea. Along the way you see what lives below the water level and who knows, you might even encounter them, the Big Five of the underwater world of the Netherlands: the beaver, otter, catfish, seal and porpoise!
