Something has changed in Friesland. This transformation began in 2018 when the province and its capital, Leeuwarden, were designated the European Capital of Culture. This year-long celebration not only showcased culture to the world but also highlighted for the Frisians themselves that culture is in our blood.

With four national parks, two national landscapes, the only two Dark Sky Parks in the Netherlands, and the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Wadden Sea, you won’t know where nature ends and the towns and villages begin.
