In Marssum, you can visit Poptaslot, officially known as Heringastate. This beautifully preserved stins dates back to the 16th century and offers a unique glimpse into the history of the Frisian nobility.

In 1687, Dr Henricus Popta, a lawyer from Leeuwarden, purchased the estate. Thanks to the provisions in his will, the manor house, gardens, moat and almshouse have been carefully preserved to this day.

Poptaslot remains one of the most remarkable historic estates in Friesland and is a fascinating destination for anyone interested in history, architecture and Frisian heritage.
