The Beleef IJlst Foundation organises a variety of activities in and around IJlst, including guided walking tours, boat trips and tailor made packages. The foundation also manages the visitor marina and motorhome site in IJlst.
Guided Walking Tours
Join a local guide for a walking tour through the historic centre of IJlst. The tour takes approximately one hour and introduces you to the story of IJlst, known as the City of Wood, and its main attractions.
During the summer season (mid June to mid September), tours start every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 2.00 pm from the VVV office in the Museum and Workshop Houtstad IJlst, Sneekerpad 14. Visitors can register at the VVV location or purchase tickets online.
You are welcome to join the scheduled tours. For groups of six or more, it is also possible to book a private tour or package for family gatherings, company outings or other occasions. Please contact boekingen@beleefijlst.nl.
Giuded boat tour through IJlst
From mid June until mid September, you can join a sightseeing cruise through IJlst aboard a traditional wooden barge at 2.00 pm. These cruises also depart from the VVV office. Register there or purchase your ticket online.
You are welcome to join the scheduled departures. For groups of six or more, tailor made packages can also be arranged for family events, company outings and other group activities. Please contact boekingen@beleefijlst.nl.
Packages
Custom made packages are available, including a guided walking tour, a boat trip, a visit to the De Rat sawmill and/or the Museum Houtstad IJlst. Packages can also be combined with coffee and cake, lunch, dinner or drinks and snacks.

Visitor Marina and Visitor Moorings in IJlst
The IJlst visitor marina offers berths for 24 motor yachts and sailing boats with a maximum draught of 1.20 metres. The marina can be reached from the Bolsward–Heeg route via the Wijnsloot and Het Zouw, a beautiful cruising route. It is also accessible from the Witte and Zwarte Brekken for vessels up to 2.40 metres in height and from the Geeuw for vessels up to 2.20 metres in height.
The marina is situated in a quiet location next to the ice rink and offers lovely views of the historic town of IJlst. Electricity and water are included in the mooring fee. Free showers and toilet facilities are available in the Fierljepschans building.
The visitor mooring at the Museum Houtstad IJlst is located on the Geeuw directly behind the museum. Part of the mooring area is intended for museum visitors. From 6.00 pm onwards, overnight stays are permitted.
Motorhome Site in IJlst
The IJlst motorhome site is located in a unique setting next to the ice rink, overlooking the Fierljepschans and within walking distance of the historic town centre with its characteristic waterfront gardens.
Free showers and toilet facilities are available in the Fierljepschans building. Electrical hook ups are available for four motorhomes.
