Take a look

The Nijega Skieppelkamp pumping station was built next to a small body of water known as Smeliester Sân. Across the water on the other side of the lake you can see the little village of Smalle Ee. This wooded area offers a tranquil setting for walking and cycling and is the perfect place to escape from the daily grind and unwind in the beautiful Frisian countryside.

In prehistoric times this was a place where hunters made their camps. Wrapped in animal skins they huddled close to the fire to keep warm. It was a harsh existence. Traces of five campfires and other finds in the area confirm the presence of hunters. Around 500 BCE, the hunters moved to higher ground. As the climate warmed up, the sea level rose and flooded low-lying areas such as this one.
