Do they really move?

On the water at Earnewâld, opposite the harbour, three corten steel marathon skaters appear to be gliding along.

From front to back, they are Jeen Wester, Hilbert van der Duim and Jos Niesten. On the jetty of the marina opposite, three stainless steel panels display the accompanying text.

All three skaters won the skating marathon ‘De 100 van Eernewoude’ at some point over the past decades.

The sculpture ‘Marathonriders’ was created by artist Hans Jouta to mark the centenary of ice skating club Lyts Begjin and Doarpsbelang Earnewâld.
