Canadameer Lake, also known as Aekingameer Lake, was originally a sand quarry. Today it is a popular recreational area especially in the summer. The quarried sides of the lake are steep so the water is very deep in places!

This unique natural values of this idyllic spot in Southeast Friesland make it a wonderful place to swim and enjoy the sun. The water in the lake is of exceptional quality. There are also camping sites nearby for those who want to stay overnight.

Situated in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf, Canada is a hamlet on the outskirts of the villages of Elsloo and Appelscha near Drents-Friese Wold National Park. In the south, the hamlet shares a border with the province of Drenthe.

On the road between Appelscha and Wateren on the north side of Canadameer Lake there is a pond where dog walkers and horse riders can let their animals play in the water.
