Eanjumer Kolken: On the south side of the water Súd Ie you will find a true bird paradise: the Eanjumer Kolken. This nature reserve. Meadow birds such as redshank, oystercatcher and lapwing can be found here in spring. During bird migration, thousands of wigeons, golden plovers and curlews populate the area. Not to mention the huge groups of white-fronted geese, greylag geese and barnacle geese that spend the winter in the Eanjumer Kolken and the surrounding area. The nature reserve is not accessible to visitors. A few times a year, It Fryske Gea organizes an excursion to the duck decoy in the area. Keep an eye on www.itfryskegea.nl for dates and prices.
From 2026 you will be able to admire the area from a watchtower and learn more about the various birds. This tower was designed by Nynke Rixt Jukema and will be located on the north side of the area, above the water Súd Ie, about 400 meters from the bridge. The tower has the shape of a salt cone. This refers to the salt extraction that used to take place in this area. This so-called selection is also the reason why this area is so low and partly for this reason it is now a paradise for birds.
You will also find fishing piers on the quay. Fishing is allowed here with a fishing pass. This is available at Landal Esonstad.
