Pietersbierum is a terp village west of Sexbierum. The village is the westernmost of the villages that developed on the salt marsh ridge along the Wadden Sea.
With just over 200 inhabitants, it has effectively grown into Sexbierum, which is why the two villages usually present themselves as one. In the immediate surroundings of both villages are several former country estates and stinzen, such as Liauckemastate, one of the largest estates in Fryslân. It is a designated national archaeological monument, with its beautiful gate still intact. You can also find some fine examples of traditional Frisian farmhouses, including kop-hals-romp and stelp farms.
