Gaasterland is a patchwork landscape of low hills (gaasten), cliffs and magnificent forests. Including the Rijsterbos forest, which grows down to the edge of Lake IJsselmeer. This is a wonderful area for walking, cycling, horse riding and mountain biking.

The landscape of Gaasterland is a patchwork of low hills (‘gaasten’), cliffs and magnificent forests. Including the Rijsterbos forest, which grows right down to the edge of Lake IJsselmeer. This is a wonderful place to go walking and cycling. It is also a fantastic area for horse riding and mountain biking. Enjoy listening to the sound of the local birds and catching sight of roe deer. There are also several badger setts here. You are unlikely to see badgers during the day, but you may spot their tracks. The alternation of forests and rolling countryside creates a very varied landscape. Besides the many footpaths in the Elfbergen and Rijsterbos forests, there are also two marked hiking trails.
