The Oudebildtdijk or ‘Old Bildt dike’, is a historic dike that runs along the Wadden Sea coast of northwest Friesland. This remarkable dike with its traditional dike houses and substantial farmhouses is the longest road in the Netherlands.
The Sudergemaal pumping station is on one of the waterways of the Turf Boating Route. It was built in 1924 to drain the polders and was one of the first electric pumping stations built in Friesland. Today it is part of the It Damshûs open air museum.
Sloten really is a fortified city and still has an active town crier, named Pieter Haringsma. During the peak season, Pieter calls the city together each Friday evening for the traditional firing of the cannons on the grounds of the Kaai corn mill.
