The Alibi Hostel is located in De Blockhuispoort- Leeuwarden's old city prison! The hostel is situated in a cell-block, with guests sleeping in renovated cell-rooms. Our block was built in 1875, and has been fully renovated to it's original state,but with significantly more comfort and cosiness! It makes for a unique experience.
De Blokhuispoort is right in thecentre of Leeuwarden, with shops, museums, and thatres within walking distance. Inside De Blokhuispoort there's been a complete transformation: underneath our hostel there's a mini-mall of independent ateliers, and across the courtyard a gourmet restaurant also has a terrace on the water. The building also gives numerous tours taking visitors through De Blokhuispoort's amazing history.
The Alibi Hostel is run by four young entrepreneurs: Marieke, Peter, Sjors; and Jurrien. All four were born in Leeuwarden, and have worked together for several years around the city. The four realised that there was no hostel in the centre of Leeuwarden, and hope that Alibi can help make the city accessible for more people.Â
The Alibi Hostel is also suitable for meetings- with our meeting room suitable for approximately 12 people. It includes a built-in sound system, and a projector; and is available (Monday-Friday) between 10:30 am and 6:00 pm. On the weekends, the room is available between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm, and we have plenty of lunch options available.
