The railway bridge in Akkrum is located at the intersection with the Zwolle–Leeuwarden railway line and spans the Boarn river. You will encounter the bridge when sailing from Akkrum to Grou or Aldeboarn.

As early as the 19th century, Akkrum/Nes grew into a busy hub, thanks to the Leeuwarden–Zwolle motorway and the Boarn river, which was then widely used for freight transport. When the railway line was added in 1868, the village became even more accessible.
