The Skrok meadow bird reserve between the villages of Wommels and Easterein is a protected area where many birds come to forage and roost. In the spring, the flower-filled grasslands are perfect for nesting. At the edge of the reserve there is a bird-watching hide near Swyns Lake. From here you can get a close-up view of large flocks of protected meadow and migratory birds. Birds gather on the lake all year round. In the spring there are sometimes hundreds of black-tailed godwits roosting here and in the autumn the lake attracts large numbers of wigeon, Eurasian teal and shoveler ducks. There is a cycle path that leads from the village of Wommels to the Skrok meadow bird reserve and the bird-watching hide.
