We hope you’ll enjoy residing in style in what is perhaps Franeker’s smallest canalside home. Built in 1664, registered as a listed building in 1989, and at the start of 2017 fully renovated to make a cosy and luxurious holiday home.
You’ll want for nothing at this beautiful location in the historic university town of Franeker. Restaurants plus unique homeware stores and fashion retailers are all within walking distance. Although situated in the heart of town, it’s a surprisingly quiet spot with a wonderful view of the Korendragershuisje (Grain Porters’ House) and only a stone’s throw from the world famous Eise Eisinga Planetarium – the oldest planetarium still in operation.
The house has been designed with an eye for detail and features a luxurious bathroom, including a rain shower, as well as a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, combi-microwave oven, fridge-freezer, induction hob, and coffee and tea-making facilities. You’ll arrive to find your beds made and hand towels/kitchen cloths ready for use. The patio at the rear of the house has a warm, somewhat French outdoorsy feel to it.
The house has free WiFi in all rooms.
It is well worth taking the time to visit other towns, such as Leeuwarden (16 km), Sneek (19 km), Bolsward (15 km), Dokkum (55 km) and Harlingen (8 km). Moreover, the West Frisian Islands, such as Terschelling and Vlieland, are within easy reach by boat from Harlingen.
Other ideas for a fun day out: Museum Martena and, of course, the Eise Eisinga Planetarium in Franeker or the Frisian Museum in Leeuwarden. Otherwise, you could also spend a day cycling past old country houses (stinzen) in the vicinity of Franeker, or else explore your surroundings by boat: so many options for making your stay in this lovely old university town a memorable one.
