Glasblazerij Het Quakeltje by Alwin Overwater has been located in a nostalgic building in the beautiful Frisian village of Exmorra since 1997. Visit the glassblowing studio and be amazed by the wonderful material that is glass. Glassblower Alwin is usually working behind the torch and is happy to answer your questions. The glassblowing studio is both a workshop and a shop.
There are various techniques for working with glass. Alwin works with a special torch and uses tubes and rods of different diameters as his basic materials. He adds colours to clear glass using glass granules or rods in his own unique way. The subtle touches of colour give each piece the right finishing touch.
Alwin was born on 3 April 1967 in the village of De Kwakel. This is where Glasblazerij 't Quakeltje gets its name. A Quakeltje or Kwakeltje is a typical small footbridge that can be found throughout his home village. Combined with his surname Overwater, the name 'Quakeltje' is original and unique. In 1997, he moved to Exmorra in Friesland. This is where his art really began to flourish, especially through his specialisation in flowers, which he developed from his experience in Aalsmeer.
Today, there are almost no limits to what Alwin can create. Together with customers, he makes a wide range of glass objects for births, weddings, personal memorials, sports prizes and awards, including awards for Enexis, Rabobank and De Telegraaf. He also creates work for the hospitality industry, including Bocuse d'Or and De Librije, as well as for television programmes and many other occasions.
Almost anything is possible and commissions are welcome. Depending on the budget and occasion, Alwin works with each customer to create a unique and personal piece of glass art. Visit the website or stop by to find out more about the possibilities. Perhaps together we can design and create the perfect piece of glass art for you.
