Oostmahorn is located on the Lauwersmeer, a former part of the Wadden Sea. Different wind directions provide opportunities for several windsurfing styles.
North and southwest winds bring nice waves, although there are also areas without waves. West winds are suitable for speed surfing because they are offshore. With an easterly wind, there is short chop across almost the entire lake. Only close to the shore is the water flat, making it possible to build up speed.
Parking is free and there is plenty of space. There is also sufficient room to rig and derig sails, mostly on grass.
Facilities: toilet, no showers.
Water depth: 0.5 to more than 2 metres.
Beginners: moderately suitable.
Wind directions: north, southwest, south, southeast, east and northeast.
Styles: freestyle, wave, speed, freeride and formula.
