The open-air museum offers a fascinating retrospective view into the past, somewhere around 1900. The museum also shows its visitors the process in which bog is turned into peat and the horrible conditions the laborers had to deal with. Dwelling houses, a small church, the shop/pub of the employer have been reconstructed on a real scale. 2 kilometers west of the museum It Damshûs a historic pumping station, the Sudergemaal, can be found. From time to time the enormous pumps are still in charge. There is also an exhibition of landscape-paintings. The museum and the pumping station are also starting points for boat-excursions.
