Sint Jacobiparochie originated in 1505 when Het Bildt was reclaimed by laborers from South Holland, Zeeland, and Friesland. The distinctive and also the longest street in the Netherlands, the Oude Bildtdijk, runs alongside Sint Jacobiparochie.
Many pilgrims find their way to St. Jacobiparochie, which is known as the starting point of the Jabikspaad pilgrimage route that ends in Spain, a dream envisioned by Emperor Charlemagne.
A highlight in the village is the Groate Kerk (Great Church), renowned for its architecture and a distinctive feature of Sint Jabik. The church was built in 1844 and designed by the well-known architect Romein. The Groate Kerk is actively used as a Cultural Center, known in the local Bildts dialect as "Kultureel Sintrum," hosting numerous concerts. Additionally, the church serves as a refugio, offering accommodation for pilgrims during their journey.
Another landmark is the water tower, similar to the one in Akrum, and is sometimes humorously referred to as the Twin Towers.
