The villages of Oentsjerk, Aldtsjerk, Mûnein, Gytsjerk, Ryptsjerk, Tytsjerk, Wyns and Readtsjerk together form De Trynwâlden: a wooded area on a sandy ridge northeast of Leeuwarden.
According to legend, Tryntsje-muoi is the mother of De Trynwâlden. This wealthy woman owned seven farms in the area and had seven sons, each of whom founded a village:
