Ons Huis (poorhouse)

The Armenhuis in Beetsterzwaard is a beautifully preserved house and was built around 1835. The house with a sad history is now used as a rehearsal room by music association Euterpe the name by the name'' Ons Huis ''.

Around 1835 the Poorhouse was built in memory of Ypkjen Hillegonda, Baroness of Lynden. She is the wife of Johannes Luden Anthz, a wealthy gentleman from Amsterdam. If you have plans to see this house, the names of Ypkjen and Johannes are engraved on the gable stone of the house. At the time, there was a lot of poverty among the population. In exchange for shelter and food, the residents of the Poorhouse had to live under the strict regime of a father and mother. There were also two sections in that house, one for women and one for men, so the residents of the house had to live separately from each other. The house was rebuilt in 1854. The regents, or the administrators of the Hospice, met in the regents' room. From 1927 the Armenhuis was taken into use as an association building for the Reformed Church and the name was changed to '' Ons Huis ''. Since 2005 the music group made their appearance in '' Ons Huis '' and they have taken the house into use as a rehearsal room for the Euterpe music association.

Since 2011, a cheese and delicacy shop has been in the front house. The upstairs apartment of the house is rented out as living space to private individuals.
