Olt Stoutenburght is Halman’s life’s work. Without architectural drawings or building permits, the artist began construction in 1990, and by 2021 the project was still ongoing. The castle may reach a maximum height of 27 metres. It is named after the medieval castle barracks Toutenburgh in the Land of Vollenhove. Built around 1500, only ruins of that castle remain today.
The castle is assembled from reclaimed historic building materials and draws inspiration from Romanesque architecture. Visits are possible by appointment and include a guided tour by the castle’s creator himself. Telephone: +31 (0)561 441225, for groups of at least 15 people.
