By two Dutch officers in hiding, some of the dropped weapons for the resistance were taken to the Marechaussee barracks in Sloten in a wagon covered with straw. Along the way, the KP (Resistance Team) soon ran into problems…
The KP (a group that committed resistance using force) was informed in good time by a police officer about the presence of German soldiers and Landwachters in the barracks. It was quickly decided to return to Wijckel via the narrow streets of Sloten. Because the KP had also had a flat tire with the farmer's cart twice, the timetable had changed significantly.
The KP-Ploeg was in a hurry because they had to be back in Echten before curfew in the evening. Jeen Hornstra was asked if the weapons could be stored in his shed for a while. Hornstra gave permission and that would later mean his death sentence. The next day the weapons and ammunition were collected from Hornstra and placed in the transformer house in Wijckel.
Shortly afterwards, two members of the KP-Squad are arrested and interrogated. Both soon gave away a lot of information, so that on February 19, 1945 Jeen Hornstra was arrested and deported to Crackstate in Heerenveen, this was the stronghold of the Sicherheidsdienst. On Saturday morning, March 17, 1945, Hornstra was shot together with nine other resistance fighters in Doniaga. Shortly afterwards, the ten victims were buried in the cemetery in Sint Nicolaasga.
