Take a look

During this city walk, we go in search of Art Nouveau in Leeuwarden and explore the signs of architectural innovation around 1900. Your guide will show you visible traces of Art Nouveau in the city, as well as point out what has been lost — with the help of historic photographs and original architectural drawings.

In addition to pure Art Nouveau buildings, Leeuwarden features many structures from around 1900 that, while not strictly Art Nouveau, clearly reflect its influence — in their shapes, use of colour, or choice of materials. Our guide will take you past these examples, helping you recognise the stylistic features of the era, drawing your attention to details you may have never noticed, and sharing fascinating stories about the buildings, their architects, and their commissioners. After this walk, you’ll never look at the city in quite the same way again!
