The Sneekweek has existed since 1934 and is now the largest sailing event on inland waters in Europe. Since 1974 the Vlootschouw has been a fixed part of the official opening of Sneekweek. With a lot of public interest boats sail through the canals of Sneek. Combined with music performances this parade creates a lively and festive atmosphere as the start of Sneekweek. The Boat of the Year is presented and the new Skipper in the Order of the Sneker Pan is announced. This is an honorary title within the Sneekweek tradition.
Program Vlootschouw 31 July 2026
Sneekweek starts on Friday evening with a festive opening and the traditional Vlootschouw. During this atmospheric evening the participating sailing classes present themselves on the water in a colourful parade of illuminated boats. Between the fleet there are boats with live music acts and marching bands that create extra atmosphere and entertainment.
The evening at De Kolk ends with a DJ performance by DJ AlltheFok, a festive finale not to miss.

Visit the Boat of the Year at De Kolk. This ship is moored at the Waterpoortsgracht next to the Waterpoort and is open for visitors.

The Waterpoort is open to the public this afternoon with a guide from the Frisian Maritime Museum.
- 15.00 to 17.00 Afternoon programme with children’s activities
In cooperation with Flitsclub, Scouting and Simmer yn Súdwest there is an active and varied programme. Children can explore sailing canoeing and supping in a playful way. There is also a creative painting workshop where water and the iconic Waterpoort are brought to life on canvas. A drum clinic by Jan Bons adds extra energy for children.

An evening full of music and entertainment with demonstrations fun facts about Sneekweek a music quiz live performances by singer Jan Joost and more. At 21.15 the official opening takes place followed by the start of the Vlootschouw at 21.45 with sailing classes music boats flyboard shows and guest vessels. The evening ends with a grand finale including a DJ show light show and fireworks.
The sailing races of Sneekweek start the next morning on Saturday at Sneekermeer. Throughout the week there are cultural and musical events in the centre of Sneek.
