On 5 May, the city centre of Leeuwarden becomes the stage for the Liberation Festival. We celebrate freedom with fantastic artists across multiple stages, special projects at the Freedom Square and fun activities for children at the Kids Festival.
We dance, raise a glass and share laughter. At the same time, 5 May is a moment to reflect on the fact that freedom is fragile and never self-evident. The sight of thousands of people around the world speaking out against war underlines the power of solidarity and the value of an open democratic society.
