Every year the island of Terschelling changes for ten days into one large stage for Theater, Dance, Pop-up Performances, Talks, Visual Arts, Science, Research and (Live) music during the Oerol Festival.
Many performances are often made on site for the locations, or adapted to that. In these ten days Oerol offers the program that an average theater would take an entire season. With more than 50,000 visitors, Oerol is the largest festival for location arts in Europe.
In addition to many premieres, experimental performances and up-and-coming talent, Oerol also offers room for reflection. The natural environment of the island with wide beaches, the dune landscape and a lot of forest helps with this. But inspiration also comes spontaneously in the barn, on the dike, in a tent on our festival grounds or simply on the street. In short, wherever you look: beautiful, weird or amazing things are happening all around you.
