History, culture, contemplation, and a good conversation on Saturday afternoon: that is Tsjerkepaad! Welcome to about 250 Frisian churches.

Nowhere are there as many churches as in Fryslân. During Tsjerkepaad, approximately 250 Frisian churches are freely accessible throughout the summer. Hospitable volunteers are available to provide explanations. The churches are open to anyone who appreciates heritage, art, silence, encounters, tranquility, or meditation.

Tsjerkepaad 2023 runs from July 1st to September 9th on Saturdays from 13:30 to 17:00. The yearly theme is "Church as a Place of Encounter." Always check www.tsjerkepaad.nl before you set out to see if the buildings you want to visit are open. Sometimes, an afternoon may be canceled, for example, due to a funeral or wedding ceremony. Each church also indicates whether there are additional activities, such as music, an exhibition, or a lecture.
