Take a look
Pieterpeuterpad is an installation by Diederikes Toko, made in collaboration with Stadsschouwburg De Harmonie as part of the youth theatre festival Het Avontuur.
The Pieterpeuterpad has no beginning and no end. It just keeps going — through all kinds of landscapes. Sometimes it’s smooth and cold — like snow! Feel it with your toes. A little further on, you’ll reach the sea. Will you go shell hunting? What’s that tickling your feet — is it grass? This is a path for feeling and exploring. So… shoes off!
The trail is made up of different elements that children can rearrange to create and walk their own path. The materials are soft, colourful, and sensory-rich — designed to spark curiosity and imagination. Some parts may send children in a new direction: Why is one stone hard and another soft like a pillow? Children are encouraged to climb, crouch to crawl through tunnels, or scramble up a hill.

“I am a visual artist. In addition to my autonomous work, I create interactive installations for young children. Freedom is key — children are encouraged to choose their own path and style of discovery and play. As host, I support them in experiencing the materials and how these elements relate to each other — in their own way. The tactile experience is central; young children naturally use their sense of touch to explore the world. I love to share the sense of wonder that comes from seeing and using everyday objects in a different way. I’m also a passionate collector of things that may seem useless at first glance but often turn out to be surprisingly valuable.”
This event takes place inside and outside the Oase at Bouwurk, at Oldehoofsterkerkhof in Leeuwarden, Fryslân.
