On Wednesday, 22 July, the Boerebrulloft will take place once again.
On this day, we travel back in time to the year 1850 in the Frisian village of Joure. It is the fourth Wednesday of July. The sun is shining, and there is a happy atmosphere in the village. Today is the day of the Boerebrulloft!
The church bells are ringing, and many people come into the streets. Ladies, gentlemen, and young people wear their best clothes to welcome the bride, groom, and their wedding party.
The bride and groom ride in beautiful traditional carriages decorated with gold leaf and colourful paintings. The carriages are pulled by proud Friesian horses. With their long manes, they move gracefully through the streets.
There are many activities during the day. At 10.00 a.m., the day starts with a parade through the Midstraat. After that, a 19th-century wedding ceremony takes place in Park Heremastate. From 12.00 p.m., visitors can enjoy a traditional wedding meal. In the afternoon, there are horse trotting races and a large traditional ring-riding competition in the Midstraat.
