Take a look
The Mobile Social Food Garden is a collaboration between Stichting 058 Samen Sterk and Bewonersbedrijf Heechterp Schieringen. Sociale Voedseltuinen Leeuwarden is the co-producer, and local residents of Heechterp Schieringen are the creators of the project.
Since this year, social food gardens have been growing in Leeuwarden East: green oases where neighbours come together to grow untreated vegetables, fruit, and herbs. Stichting Sociale Voedseltuinen Leeuwarden offers a response to food insecurity, social exclusion, and health disparities. The gardens are located at two sites: on Schieringerweg and at De Toffe Peer (Egelantiersstraat 100).
These gardens aim to provide households with low income access to free, untreated vegetables, fruit, and herbs. They also serve as spaces for connection, education, and cooperation.
Together with Stichting Sociale Voedseltuinen (foundation Social Food Garden) Leeuwarden, we are realising a special artistic project: The Mobile Social Food Garden. In addition to the fields in Heechterp, the organisation, along with volunteers and children from the neighbourhood, has painted and filled eight large potato crates with vegetables and crops. These crates, decorated by children in collaboration with graffiti artist Roy Schreuder, will arrive at the Oldehoofsterkerkhof in early June, where they will be used for 100 days as a kitchen garden for Bouwurk. The colourfully decorated containers will be on display at the Oldehoofsterkerkhof and will later return to the neighbourhoods as a lasting meeting place.
With this project, we connect art, nature, and community — showing how food can grow into something greater: future, collaboration, and pride.
This event takes place in Oase at Bouwurk at Oldehoofsterkerkhof in Leeuwarden, Fryslân.
