A year ago, eight Frisian acts began their journey with GRONDSLAG, a talent development programme by Friesland Pop. Now, after months of coaching, growth and experimentation, it’s time for the grand finale.
On Sunday 25 May, these acts will showcase what they’ve learned during the final presentation of the programme. From 16:00, Neushoorn opens its doors, and everyone is invited to come and experience eight talented new acts from Friesland:
The guys from Be My Guest create hard rock for softies. Punky drums, fuzzy riffs and catchy hooks, backed by introspective lyrics from songwriter Dae ten Veen. With roots in different musical styles, Be My Guest floats in their own space between pop, rock and indie, drawing inspiration from — but not limited to — the entire QotSA catalogue, one very specific Ben Howard song, and every British band your dad listens to.
BigBeefSauce’s tracks are steeped in American trap influences, blending melodic and raw elements. Together with DJ/producer Exmore, this rapper forms a duo known for their high-energy live shows. Honest and open music that offers a glimpse into the life of young adults in Friesland. Expect a performance packed with powerful beats, sincere lyrics, and unmatched energy.
All aboard with Captain J. Wright and let yourself drift into their adventurous indie soul. Story-driven, dreamy lyrics are woven through a ‘60s and ‘70s vibe. Expect warm, cosy sounds paired with a dynamic rhythm section and a playful touch of psychedelia.
The unique Floor Bruystens gives shape to her thoughts through music, with her band transforming the venue into a space for reflection. Their music brings together a refreshing blend of genres. With influences from Laura Marling and Hayley Hendrickx, they create an original sound carried by poetic lyrics — making the unspoken heard.
Tornado GraafLandgraaf delivers alt rock/punk with a twist of rap, sweet sounds, and a whole lot of noise. With sharp lyrics, the band tackles pressing social issues — from mental health to exploitation and violence. Add fuzzed-out guitars, pitch-shifted bass, pounding drums, surprisingly off-key saxophone, and boundless energy, and the circus is complete.
The outspoken Lis pulls you in with singing and rapping, bringing a sassy vibe with infectious energy and confidence. Her punchy lyrics take you on a rollercoaster of stories, landing you in a shameless bubble of connection. Come feel it for yourself — and be immersed in the sparkling pink world of Lis.
Nachtvlinder is a singer-songwriter, illustrator, and outlier. With her alternative country songs and black-and-white illustrations, she embarks on a journey through her inner world. Along the way, she guides you past dizzying highs, deep lows, shadowy corners and curious creatures. Hold your breath as she spins her musical cocoons — soft places to land and catch your breath. A brief escape from a world that can sometimes feel so harsh.
The now-notorious rock-’n-rollers of PULSE bring the house down wherever they go. The band blends styles ranging from The Stones to Herman Brood, Black Sabbath, Nirvana and the Sex Pistols. Their energetic mix of rock, grunge, punk and rock-’n-roll forms a sound all their own.
From warm indie soul to hip hop, rock-’n-roll and raw punk: the final GRONDSLAG showcase of the year promises to be a diverse evening full of emerging Frisian talent. This is something you truly don’t want to miss.
Come support the next generation of artists on Sunday 25 May at Neushoorn. Entry is free. See you there!
