Discover the traces of the noble Dekema family during a cycling tour in and around Leeuwarden. You’ll visit, among other places, the burial vault of Sicke van Dekema in the church of Jellum, and pass several remarkable sites once inhabited by the family.
The route takes you past the Oldehove, where the gravestones of Piter Dekema and Catharina van Loo can be found, through the Grote Kerkstraat with its Dekema House, and along the Stadhouderlijk Hof, where another Dekema residence once stood. The tour continues past Het Oudhof in De Schrans and on to Weidum, the Dekema family’s ancestral home. In Jellum, you’ll visit Mammemastate and the burial vault of Sicke van Dekema in the church. The day concludes at Eetcafé Jonker Sikke in Jellum.
